Holy Trinity Cathedral

The Holy Trinity Cathedral (Svyato-Troitsky Sobor) is Belgorod's most important surviving pre-revolutionary building, a functioning Orthodox cathedral with origins in the 19th century. The cathedral was one of the few religious buildings in the city to survive both the German occupation and Soviet anti-religious policy in a condition fit for restoration, and it serves today as the city's main Orthodox church.

The interior follows the traditional Russian Orthodox pattern — icons in gilded frames, frescoed walls, the smell of incense, and the particular atmosphere of a place of continuous use rather than a museum piece. Services are conducted regularly and visitors are welcome outside service times; the church etiquette requires women to cover their heads and shoulders.
