Khan's Mausoleum

18th-century tomb from Derbent's brief era as an independent khanate

The 18th-century Khan's Mausoleum marks the period when Derbent served as the capital of its own khanate (1747–1796), an interlude of local rule between Persian and Russian domination. The mausoleum is a modest but well-preserved example of the Caucasian Islamic funerary architecture of the period, and sits within walking distance of the citadel and old town.
