Sochi on the Black Sea coast is about 3 hours south of Krasnodar by road or rail, passing through increasingly dramatic Caucasus foothills. Anapa and Gelendzhik are beach resorts about 2–3 hours west of Krasnodar, popular with Russian domestic tourists. Less international than Sochi but historically significant as former Greek colonial sites.
Abrau-Dyurso, about 20 km from Novorossiysk, is Russia's most famous sparkling wine estate, established in 1870 by imperial decree. The cellars are open for tours and tastings, and the estate sits in a dramatic inland lake valley.
