The Church of the Ascension is the smaller winter church beside the Cathedral of the Resurrection. Its shape is plainer, but that pairing is the point: northern church ensembles often set a large summer church next to a warmer, more usable winter one.
Together with the bell tower, it gives 25 October Square its architectural rhythm.
