Omsk Fortress is the historical heart of the city. The original military settlement was founded in 1716 near the confluence of the Om and Irtysh, and later fortress gates and buildings still frame the old quarter.
Do not expect a complete walled citadel. The interest is in the surviving gates, restored buildings, and the sense of how Omsk began as a frontier stronghold before becoming a large Siberian city.
