The Ryazan Regional Art Museum, known as the Pozhalostin Museum after the locally born engraver Ivan Pozhalostin, is one of the oldest art museums in Russia and the finest gallery in the region. The collection spans Russian painting from the eighteenth century to the Soviet period, with works by Aivazovsky, Levitan, and other major artists alongside applied art and porcelain.
The museum is housed in a handsome nineteenth-century building in the city centre and maintains a memorial room dedicated to Pozhalostin himself, who was a prominent academic engraver of the late imperial era. Temporary exhibitions run throughout the year, and the museum serves as the main venue for contemporary art in the oblast.
