Vladimir is 180 km east of Moscow and easily reached by rail. Lastochka express trains from Moscow's Kursky station take about 1 hour 40 minutes; ordinary intercity trains take around 2 hours 30 minutes. Trains run throughout the day, making Vladimir an easy day trip from Moscow or an overnight stop on the Golden Ring circuit.
Long-distance buses from Moscow's Shchelkovsky bus station also serve Vladimir but are slower. By car, the city is on the M7 federal highway east of Moscow — about a 2-hour drive in normal traffic.
From Vladimir, regular buses and shared taxis run to Suzdal 35 km to the north (about 45 minutes).
