Akatov Monastery gives Voronezh a calmer counterpoint to its large Soviet avenues and riverside traffic. The complex is an active Orthodox convent, with restored churches, a compact courtyard, and a historic bell tower that survived enough of the city's upheavals to make the place feel older than much of modern Voronezh.
Come respectfully dressed and expect a working religious site rather than a museum. It is close enough to central Voronezh to combine with the Annunciation Cathedral and the river embankment, making it a useful stop for travellers trying to see the city's religious architecture in a short visit.
