The Sakhalin Regional Art Museum sits in a former Hokkaido Takushoku Bank building from the Japanese period. The setting is part of the reason to go: the building is one of the clearest Toyohara-era survivors in central Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The permanent displays include Russian religious art copies and collections connected with Japan and Korea, both of which matter deeply to Sakhalin's modern history.
