The Treasure House of Karafuto Shinto Shrine is a small surviving remnant of the Japanese shrine built here in 1911, when southern Sakhalin was under Japanese rule. The original shrine treasures were moved or lost during the Soviet period, but the cottage and spring still make a quiet stop for travelers interested in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk's layered history.
