The thermal springs of Sokobanja produce sulphur-rich water at a constant temperature of around 27–32°C, and the town's entire identity is built around them. Several spa facilities offer treatments ranging from clinical hydrotherapy and physiotherapy (the original purpose, still in demand) to straightforward bathing for relaxation.
The main public baths are in the Banjica area, a short walk from the town centre. Private hotels and sanatoriums also have their own pools, open to non-guests for a day rate. The water is mildly sulphurous in smell but effective — people come here for back problems, joint conditions, and stress, and the town has a well-established tradition of extended stays for therapeutic purposes. A day's bathing costs very little.
