Bojnice Zoo

Bojnice Zoo is the National Zoological Garden of Slovakia, occupying 42 hectares adjacent to Bojnice Castle with over 350 animal species. Founded in 1955 on the site of older private animal collections, it is the most visited zoo in Slovakia and well-regarded for its naturalistic enclosures and conservation work.

The zoo's setting in hilly parkland alongside the castle gives it a more attractive layout than many European city zoos, with wooded walking paths between exhibits. Highlights include big cats, primates, and the breeding programmes for rare Central Asian species. The zoo and castle together make for a full day with children, and the town's thermal baths provide a relaxing end to the afternoon.

The zoo occupies 42 hectares alongside the castle and has expanded significantly over the decades. It is notable for its effort to maintain breeding populations of endangered species and participates in several European coordinated breeding programmes.
