The walled castle enclosure sits above the main square and is the visual heart of Kremnica. You enter through the Lower Gatehouse and climb into a fortified hilltop precinct that has changed little since the 15th century. The Gothic walls, towers, and the church of St. Catherine all remain largely intact.
The church of St. Catherine is the centerpiece — a Gothic hall church with a distinctive octagonal tower and well-preserved interior. Beside it stands the Romanesque rotunda of St. Andrew, one of the oldest surviving buildings in the complex, dating to the 12th century. From the towers there are broad views over the Kremnica Mountains and the valley below. The complex is small enough to explore in under an hour, but the quality of preservation makes it one of the finest medieval castle-church ensembles in Slovakia.
