Municipal Museum (Mestské múzeum)

The Kremnica Municipal Museum occupies one of the old townhouses on the main square and covers the town's long history as a mining and minting center. The collection includes mining tools, mineralogical specimens from the surrounding mountains, coins and medals struck at the mint across the centuries, and documents tracing Kremnica's role in the medieval Kingdom of Hungary.

The museum is small but well-organized and gives useful context before you visit the castle and mint. There are displays on the lives of ordinary miners — the dangerous work, the guild structures, the social hierarchies — that balance the focus on the gold and silver that made Kremnica famous. Labels are mostly in Slovak, but the objects speak for themselves.
