Solivar Salt Works

Solivar, southeast of the centre, preserves the machinery and buildings of Prešov's historic salt industry. It is one of those industrial sights that sounds dry until you arrive and realise how much engineering, labour, and money went into producing something as ordinary as salt.

The site works best with a guided visit, because the value is in understanding the process: brine, extraction, storage, and the timber-heavy architecture built around it. It is a strong choice if you have already seen enough churches and want a more unusual Prešov story.

A story
Solivar's old brine and salt works are a reminder that "white gold" was not just a metaphor. Before refrigeration and modern transport, salt meant preservation, taxation, and power; towns that controlled it mattered.
