Ľudovít Fulla Gallery

The Ľudovít Fulla Gallery, a branch of the Slovak National Gallery, occupies a purpose-built modernist building in the centre of Ružomberok and houses the most complete collection of the painter's work. Fulla was one of the leading Slovak modernists of the 20th century, known for his folk-inspired imagery rendered in vivid, almost Fauvist colour — Slovak village life, folk tales, and religious subjects translated into a bold personal style.

The collection spans his entire career, from early experiments through his mature period. If you have any interest in central European modernism or Slovak culture, the gallery is worth an hour of your time. The building itself, designed to display the work well, is a pleasant space in contrast to the communist-era blocks nearby.

A story
Ľudovít Fulla (1902–1980) is one of the most significant Slovak modernist painters, known for bold colours, simplified forms, and subject matter drawn from Slovak folk tradition. He worked partly in Bratislava and partly in Ružomberok, and the gallery — a branch of the Slovak National Gallery established in 1969 — holds the most comprehensive public collection of his work anywhere.
