Loggia Palace

The Loggia Palace is a 15th-century Venetian Gothic building on the east side of Titov Trg, built in 1462. Its name comes from the open loggia that forms its ground floor — a series of pointed Gothic arches that once sheltered the public life of the square: merchants trading, officials holding court, citizens gathering in the shade. The design is clearly modelled on the Ducal Palace in Venice, filtered through local Istrian stone.

Today the ground floor of the loggia serves as a café — the arched vaults overhead, the old stone columns, and the view across the square make it one of the better settings for a coffee stop in the northern Adriatic. The upper floors of the building are not open to the public.

The Loggia Palace and the Praetorian Palace face each other across the square, creating a paired effect that emphasises the Venetian character of Titov Trg. Stand at the centre of the square with both buildings in view and you have the essential image of Koper's Venetian past.
