Intact medieval walls with the best elevated view over Piran's peninsula

Piran's medieval walls are still largely intact and can be walked for a stretch above the town. Originally built in the 7th century and extended several times over the following centuries — the last major work was in the 16th century, when Turkish raids made coastal defense a serious concern — they now offer the best elevated view of the town and the peninsula below. The section near the cathedral is the most accessible. Entry is free and the walk takes around 20 minutes.
