The Barranco de los Cazadores — the Gorge of the Hunters — cuts through the limestone massif of the Sierra de Tejeda just above Canillas de Aceituno and offers one of the most dramatic walks in the Axarquía. The trail follows a seasonal stream into a narrowing canyon where the walls close in to form shaded passages, and the route involves some easy scrambling over boulders and stream crossings.
The gorge is best walked in spring when the stream is flowing and the vegetation is at its densest, with oleander, bramble, and wild figs filling the canyon floor. In summer the stream dries up but the shade and cool air make it a relief from the coast. Allow two to three hours for the gorge section alone; combined with the return climb to the village the round trip takes most of a day.
