At kilometre 38 of the road between Mazagón and Matalascañas, a small car park marks the start of a wooden boardwalk that runs over the dunes to the sea. The walk takes about ten minutes through low scrub and umbrella pines and leads to one of the wildest and quietest stretches of beach on the Costa de la Luz.
The dunes here are some of the highest on the Atlantic coast of Spain and are part of the Doñana natural park. The beach is broad, undeveloped, and almost empty outside the August peak. A couple of chiringuitos set up in summer; for the rest of the year, you bring your own water. Sunsets are exceptional.
