Museo Lara

The Museo Lara is an eccentric private collection assembled over a lifetime by Juan Antonio Lara, filling a handsome mansion near the Puente Nuevo with an extraordinary miscellany. Antique clocks, weapons, scientific instruments, typewriters, musical boxes, and a full section dedicated to objects related to witchcraft and the Inquisition fill room after room. The effect is less museum than cabinet of curiosities on a grand scale.

The witchcraft section is the most distinctive part of the collection — torture instruments, amulets, spell books, and artefacts from the Inquisition's campaigns against popular magic in Andalusia. It is morbidly compelling and handled with a certain dark humour. Entry is inexpensive and the English audio guide covers the main highlights.
