Puerta de Almocabar is one of the strongest surviving pieces of Ronda's old defensive circuit, guarding the southern approach to the historic city. The gate and walls belong to the Moorish shape of Ronda, before the town's drama became centred almost entirely on the gorge and Puente Nuevo.
It is worth walking out this way because the gate changes your sense of the old town. From here, Ronda looks less like a viewpoint and more like a fortified hill city, with approaches, walls, and thresholds that mattered long before modern tourism arrived.
