Church of San Pablo

The Church of San Pablo stands in the working-class neighbourhood of the same name, west of the city centre, and is one of the best examples of Aragonese Mudéjar architecture alongside the Seo cathedral. The octagonal tower, decorated with geometric patterns of brick and glazed tiles, is the finest Mudéjar tower in Zaragoza and one of a group listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

The church dates from the 14th century; the tower was added and modified in the 16th. Inside, a retable attributed to various Aragonese painters from the 15th century lines the main altar. The surrounding neighbourhood has an authentic, ungentrified feel compared to the tourist-heavy cathedral area — the bars and bakeries on the surrounding streets are local rather than visitor-oriented.
