Things to Do

Zaragoza is an easy city to walk. The heart of it all is the Plaza del Pilar — one of Europe's largest public squares — with the enormous Basílica del Pilar at one end, the older Catedral de la Seo at the other, and La Lonja in between. The old town west of the basilica is a dense grid of medieval lanes and tapas bars.

Beyond the obvious, Zaragoza has Roman ruins in excavated sites including the Roman Theatre, the Moorish Aljafería Palace on the western edge of the centre, and a string of Goya-related museums. Goya was born just outside the city: the Museo Camón Aznar holds his full print series, and the Museo de Zaragoza has additional works. The sculptor Pablo Gargallo is celebrated at his own museum, the Museo Pablo Gargallo. The Mudéjar tower of San Pablo church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site worth the short walk from the centre.
