Nuestra Senora del Acebo Sanctuary stands on a hilltop about 12 kilometres from Cangas del Narcea, high enough to turn the valley into a map of ridges, villages, and folded green slopes. The sanctuary has been a local place of devotion since the 16th century and remains one of Asturias's important pilgrimage sites.
The building is simple, but the setting does most of the work. Go for the view, the sense of local faith, and the drive through the upland landscape that surrounds Cangas.
