Asturias is a green, mountainous region on Spain's north coast, where the peaks of the Picos de Europa drop toward a rugged Atlantic shoreline of fishing villages and coves. It is a land of cider poured from on high, hearty bean stews, pre-Romanesque churches, and some of the best hiking in Spain. The cities of Oviedo and Gijón make good bases.
