Porto Cristo Beach

Porto Cristo's beach occupies the innermost curve of the inlet, sheltered on all sides by the steep limestone headlands that give the harbour its character. It is not a large beach — a few hundred metres of coarse golden sand — but the setting is lovely and the water is reliably calm, rarely disturbed by the open-sea swell that makes other Mallorcan beaches choppy in summer winds. The sheltered position and shallow entry make it especially good for children.

The promenade runs along the back of the beach, which means easy access to cafés and restaurants but also means there is no escaping the summer crowds in July and August. Arrive early in the morning or stay into the early evening to find a more comfortable amount of space. The water quality is consistently good and the inlet's narrow entrance keeps boat traffic minimal, so swimming is pleasant throughout the day. For a quieter beach experience, the coves to the south — Cala Anguila and Cala Romantica — are a short drive away.
