Getting There

Menorca's main airport is near Maó, about 45 kilometres east of Ciutadella. There are regular flights from mainland Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia) and from several British and European airports, particularly in summer. Driving from the airport to Ciutadella takes about 45 minutes on the main road, the Me-1.

By ferry, Ciutadella has its own small passenger ferry port with services to Alcúdia in Mallorca (Baleària and Transmediterránea). The crossing takes about an hour and is seasonal — more frequent in summer. There are also overnight ferries from Barcelona to Maó, which is the more practical option for those travelling from the mainland.

Once on the island, the main road between Maó and Ciutadella runs the length of Menorca in about 45 minutes. Rental cars are available at the airport; a car is not essential in Ciutadella itself but useful for the beaches and prehistoric sites. Local buses connect Ciutadella with Maó and the main towns.
