Natural Pools

The streams draining the southern sierra above Pedro Bernardo have carved a series of natural pools into the granite — clear, cold water over smooth rock, shaded by oaks and chestnuts. These pozas are the village's main summer attraction, drawing visitors from the surrounding towns who come to swim and picnic through July and August.

The pools closest to the village are easy to reach on foot in under 30 minutes. Water levels depend heavily on the previous winter's snowfall; by late September the streams can be quite low. Outside the summer season the walks through the forest to reach the pools are worthwhile in their own right — the chestnut groves are particularly good in autumn colour.
