Pedro Bernardo is a small granite village on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos, about 120 km west of Madrid. Life here moves slowly. The village itself — tight lanes, stone houses, a Romanesque church — is worth exploring on foot, and the surrounding hills offer hiking on trails that see very few walkers compared to the busier northern flank of the sierra. Natural swimming holes in the forest streams are the main draw in summer.
