The Iglesia de Santiago is the oldest church in Ciudad Real, founded in the 13th century soon after the city was established by Alfonso X. The interior preserves a fine Mudéjar wooden ceiling above the chancel — alternating stars and lozenges in dark timber — that is the single best piece of medieval craftsmanship in town.
The exterior is plain, almost defensive; the inside is a quiet surprise. Free to visit during mass times.
