Puente del Arzobispo Pottery

The town of Puente del Arzobispo sits on the Tagus river about 20 km south of Oropesa and has been producing distinctive green-glazed ceramics since the 15th century. The characteristic pieces — plates, jugs, oil bottles, and decorative tiles — are made with local clay and finished with a mottled olive-green glaze that is immediately recognisable.

The town's main street is lined with potteries and shops, many of them family-run businesses where you can watch the throwing and glazing process. It is a useful and honest souvenir-shopping stop rather than a polished tourist attraction — prices are low and pieces are practical. The medieval bridge that gives the town its name, built by the Archbishop of Toledo in the 14th century, is still standing and worth a look.
