Plaza Mayor

Tarancón's Plaza Mayor (officially Plaza de la Constitución) is the social heart of the town, recently repaved and surrounded by a mix of nineteenth- and twentieth-century arcaded buildings. The town hall faces it on one side, the parish church anchors the other end, and the cafés on the south side fill up in the early evening.

There is nothing architecturally grand about the square, but it gets the small-town Castilian thing right: a small fountain, the noise of children after the school day, retirees on benches in the late afternoon sun. Sit with a coffee for half an hour and you will see most of the town.
