The Funicular de Sant Joan climbs from the monastery area to an upper station with broad views across Montserrat's jagged rock formations. It is useful even if you are not planning a long hike, since the ride quickly puts you above the busiest part of the monastery complex.
From the top, trails continue toward Santa Magdalena, Sant Jeroni, and other viewpoints. Check the return schedule before setting off, especially late in the day.
