Museu de la Nina (Doll Museum)

The Museu de la Nina in Castell d'Aro's old town is one of those slightly eccentric museums that turns out to be more absorbing than expected. The collection covers dolls from around the world — ceramic, cloth, wood, and celluloid figures from Europe, the Americas, and Asia — with particular depth in early 20th-century French and German porcelain dolls. The museum also documents the history of doll-making as a craft and industry.

The building itself is an attractive old stone house in the village centre. The museum is small enough to cover in an hour. It is particularly popular with families, though adults tend to find the historical and anthropological aspects interesting in their own right. Check local hours before visiting — opening times vary seasonally.
