Falset is the practical capital of Priorat, a small town with enough restaurants, shops and accommodation to make it the easiest base. It is not the most picturesque village in the region, but it has the rhythm of a real market town rather than a place kept alive only for wine tourism.
The old centre is worth a wander, especially around the castle area and the streets below it. Use Falset to get your bearings, book tastings, buy local wine and then head out into the hill villages where Priorat becomes more dramatic.
