Casa Gasull

Domènech i Montaner’s elegant Modernista house, part of Reus’s compact architecture trail.

Casa Gasull is one of the Reus buildings that makes the city's Modernista trail more than a footnote to Barcelona. Designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and completed in the early 20th century, it was commissioned by an olive-oil businessman and combines residence, commerce, and display in the confident style of Catalan Modernisme.

The building is best appreciated from the street, especially together with nearby Casa Rull and the other Domènech works around the centre. Look for the ceramic detail, the measured symmetry, and the way the facade feels decorative without becoming frivolous. Reus rewards slow walking, and Casa Gasull is exactly the sort of stop that makes that pace worthwhile.
