Modernista Route

Reus has one of the most concentrated collections of Modernista architecture outside Barcelona, a legacy of the town's commercial prosperity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and its connections to the leading architects of the movement. The Modernista Route is a signposted walking trail through the old centre linking the main buildings.

Beyond Casa Navàs and the Gaudí Centre, the route includes Casa Rull (1900, also by Domènech i Montaner), the Teatre Fortuny, the Centre de Lectura reading hall, and a dozen other buildings within easy walking distance of each other. Most of the exteriors can be seen freely; a combined ticket from the Gaudí Centre gives access to several interiors. The full route takes about two hours at a relaxed pace. Maps are available at the tourist office and the Gaudí Centre. The Institut Pere Mata, on the northern edge of the city, is part of the same architectural tradition but requires a separate trip.
