Roman public square at the lower town — basilica, temples, and the carved tabula of citizenship rights

The lower of Tarragona's two Roman forums (the upper Provincial Forum was the administrative seat of the wider Hispania Tarraconensis province; this Colonial Forum was the local civic square of the city of Tarraco itself). The site preserves several rows of standing columns from the basilica (a covered law court and public meeting hall), the remains of two minor temples, and the foundations of various tabernae and shops.

The bronze tabula displayed in a glass case at the site is the centrepiece — it records a 2nd-century Roman law granting citizenship rights to the colonists of Tarraco. Visit alongside the Roman Theatre 200 metres south; both can be done in 60 minutes.
