Els Ametllers is a Roman villa site a few minutes inland from the beach. The remains are modest, but they give useful depth to a town that can otherwise look purely medieval and seaside.
The site dates back to the 1st century BC and was tied to the Roman province of Tarraco. It is an easy stop if you are already walking between the bus station, the centre and the old town.
