The Vila Vella is Tossa's old fortified town, wrapped around the headland between Platja Gran and Es Codolar. Its walls, towers, stone lanes and sea views are the difference between Tossa and an ordinary beach resort.
Go early or near sunset if you can. The climb is short, the views are excellent, and the old town feels much better before the day-trippers fill the narrow lanes.
