Bouzas

Bouzas is Vigo's old fishing neighbourhood, a former village absorbed into the city that has kept its own distinct character. The barrio hugs the southern waterfront about 3 km from the city centre and is home to Vigo's working fishing fleet — the trawlers, processing sheds, and fish auction that make this the busiest fishing port in Europe.

The neighbourhood has a handful of excellent, unpretentious marisquerías that get their catch from the boats a few hundred metres away. It is less touristic than the old town and feels more like the real city — locals drinking Ribeiro wine in the morning, fishermen eating at noon. A walk along the Bouzas promenade to the small beach at Samil, 2 km further south, is the classic local Sunday afternoon activity.
