This cave museum gives Cullera its best story. In 1550 the Ottoman corsair Dragut attacked the town, and Cullera was left so damaged that it was almost abandoned for decades.
The museum is theatrical rather than grand, but the setting works: a cave by the lighthouse, a pirate raid, and a reminder that the quiet Valencian coast was once part of a dangerous Mediterranean frontier.
