Torre del Gerro

Sixteenth-century coastal watchtower above Dénia with big views toward the cape.

Torre del Gerro stands above the coast south of Dénia, a stout sixteenth-century watchtower built to warn of pirate raids along the Marina Alta shore. Its position on the slope toward Les Rotes and the Montgó area makes the defensive logic immediately clear.

The tower is best approached as a walk for views as much as history. From the hillside you can look back over Dénia, out to the Mediterranean, and along the rocky coast, making it one of the better short outings beyond the castle and town centre.
