The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria stands a short walk from the Ducal Palace and belongs to the same compact old-town circuit. Its Gothic body grew from an earlier mosque site, and its fortunes rose with the Borja dukes.
It works best as a companion visit to the palace. Together they make the centre feel like a historic city rather than a beach suburb with a few old streets behind it.
