Cuevas de la Villa

Network of medieval caves under Plaza de Albornoz, once used as cellars, silos, and shelters.

The Cuevas de la Villa are Requena's best sight: 22 caves cut below the old square, with origins in the Muslim period and later uses as wine cellars, grain stores, shelters, and ossuaries.

The most memorable objects are the huge clay jars once used for wine. They turn the caves from a curiosity into a clear explanation of why wine and underground storage are so deeply tied to the town.
