The Valencian Institute of Modern Art opened in 1989 — the first dedicated contemporary art museum in Spain — and remains one of the country's most serious. The permanent collection is strong on Julio González (whose bequest founded the museum), Ignacio Pinazo, and a steady programme of 20th-century European and American artists. The temporary exhibitions cover everything from photography to design to architecture.
Set in a low concrete-and-glass building on the northern edge of the old city, near the Torres de Quart. Allow two hours. Entry is reasonably priced and free on Sundays.
