Palau de la Generalitat

The seat of the Valencian regional government, on the western side of the Plaza de la Virgen, built between the 15th and 17th centuries in late Gothic and early Renaissance styles. Two square towers anchor the corners; the older tower is original 15th-century, the matching tower opposite was added in the 1950s to balance the façade.

The interior is occasionally open to the public on guided tours — book ahead through the Generalitat website. The Hall of Estates upstairs has a magnificent painted ceiling and a row of 15th-century portraits of medieval rulers of Valencia.
