Lake Möckeln

Large lake north of Degerfors shared with Karlskoga, good for swimming and walking

Lake Möckeln lies a few kilometres north of Degerfors, shared with the neighbouring municipality of Karlskoga. It is a substantial lake by Swedish standards — about 17 square kilometres — and provides the main outdoor recreation for the area in summer. Swimming spots along the south shore are accessible from Degerfors; the Degernäs Manor (a nineteenth-century estate) sits at the southernmost tip of the lake on a wooded promontory.

The lake is popular for fishing (pike, perch, zander) and there are small boat launches accessible to visitors. The landscape around the southern shore is pleasant in a characteristically Swedish way — birch and pine forest, flat water, and the occasional red farmhouse — and a walk along the lake shore makes a reasonable addition to an afternoon spent at Sveafallen.
