The Monitor ERP Arena is the home ground of Brynäs IF, one of Sweden's most successful ice hockey clubs with more Swedish championship titles than any other team. Brynäs has been in the top division of Swedish hockey (SHL) for most of its history and has a devoted local following. Attending a home game in the October–April season is a good evening out: the atmosphere is lively, tickets are generally available without trouble, and the arena holds around 8,500 people.
The arena is about 2km north of the city centre, easily reached on foot or by the local bus. Swedish hockey is a high standard — the SHL regularly feeds players into the NHL — and if you haven't watched the sport before, Gävle is not a bad place to start.
